Create, edit, delete… or just create?

Recently YouTube added a new feature to its service: the user now can delete his/her own comments below the videos. This news has been spread around throughout tech blogs and praised by YouTube as a useful feature.
It was at that moment that I realised for the first time that you could not delete your comments before. This came as a shock. Does not the rule Number One of Interaction Design say: The User shall always be able to edit and delete whatever The User has created?
YouTube is notorious for its torrents of passionate comments (which are sometimes funny to read and sometimes not really). It is of course very good that users who are sorry for their passionate outbursts can now quietly retreat. But a « feature »? What in any application is considered a basic user right?
And how could I not have noticed that before?
One feature I am still waiting for from YouTube (or maybe just have not found yet) is being able to trace all the comments of a particular user. Should provide a fun reading. If those users do not delete them all before that…
